Nineteen years ago, I accepted the job to work at the MJCC in marketing and design. After approximately 75 program guides, 19 day camp brochures, and countless weekly emails, I have experienced a tremendous amount of change and growth. It’s enlightening to look back at the early days of my marketing/design career when we were proofing printed documents by blue-line, sending out printed press releases, and writing html code for our website. Wow - what a difference two decades make. The marketing world has changed dramatically!
Now we do most of our printing and video production in-house since there is such high quality digital printing and video available. A majority of our advertising has switched from print into online digital ads. We now use social media as our main channels of promotion, and customers look at reviews from people they don’t even know for purchasing decisions. Meetings with vendors are on Zoom instead of in-person. Most of us are used to our fast-paced, digital world and are finding the MJCC while scrolling or searching on their mobile device. I could go on and on.
With all that said, what I find most special about working at the MJCC is that warm, person to person, family feeling. Although communication has become more digital, we all still crave an in-person hang at the Cafe at the J, playing basketball in the gym or joining a group exercise class. There’s nothing like a big community celebration like Yom Ha’Atzmaut or New Year’s at Noon. I hope you’ll take a look at our upcoming spring program guide and join us for one of the many programs coming up this spring!
Two Decades of Change
