Junior Rays Pre-swim Team ( ages 5+)
![]() The Junior Rays team and waitlist are full for the 2025-2026 season. Check back in August 2026 for information on tryouts for next season! |
About the Junior RaysThe Junior Rays are pre-team athletes who are transitioning from lessons to competition and are interested in pursuing swimming as a sport. Coaches provide a nurturing environment focusing on technique and learning all four strokes plus other competition skills in a team environment. The Junior Rays do occasional intrasquad racing as part of practices, but they are not part of USA Swimming and do not compete in swim meets. |
How to Join(Current Junior Rays looking for registration documents, scroll down!) Junior Rays must be able to confidently swim 25 continuous yards (one length) each of freestyle and backstroke, and take direction in a group of 10 - 12 athletes from a coach who is on deck. Swimmers must demonstrate side-breathing in freestyle, as well as out-of-water arm recovery and continuous horizontal body position in both strokes. Quarterly tryouts, if space is available, are in late September, December, and March, with athletes starting the first of the next month. Contact Head Coach Jennie Condon at jcondon@oregonjcc.org with any questions or to get on the waitlist. After September tryouts, waitlisted athletes will have first priority for tryouts in subsequent quarters. Please do not sign up for the waitlist unless your swimmer fully intends to take the next available spot, regardless of time of year. Because we limit our waitlists to the number of athletes we believe we will be able to accommodate in the next 12 months, swimmers who elect not to use their spot are taking opportunities away from others. We are happy to chat with you beforehand or have you come and visit so we can make sure it will be a good fit! |
Practices + FeesJunior Rays practice resumes October 6 for returning swimmers and October 7 for new swimmers. Monday - Thursday, 4:45 pm - 5:30 pm |

Stingrays USA Swimming Team (ages 6-18)
![]() The Stingrays team is currently full. Email Coach Jennie (jcondon@oregonjcc.org) to get on our waitlist. |
About the StingraysThe Stingrays Swim Team is a fun and challenging way to keep active and build confidence. Athletes will work on technique, stamina, speed, goal setting, and lifetime fitness habits. As part of USA Swimming, the team will participate in regular meets in the Portland Metro area and beyond, with athletes at all levels having the opportunity to compete with those of their own age and ability. |
How to Join(Current Stingrays looking for registration documents, scroll down!) Our swim team tryout consists of swimming 50 continuous yards (two lengths) each of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Coaches may ask for an additional 50 yards of butterfly for athletes being considered for Silver (our second level). Athletes should demonstrate a basic understanding of the technique and rhythm of all requested strokes, including side-breathing in freestyle and maintaining a horizontal body position throughout. Breaststroke should show the correct cycle and an effort towards the correct kick but does not have to be legal. Silver swimmers must have a legal breaststroke and know some butterfly. Quarterly tryouts, if space is available, are in late September, December, March, and June, with athletes starting the first of the next month. Contact Head Coach Jennie Condon at jcondon@oregonjcc.org with any questions. After September tryouts, waitlisted swimmers will have first priority for tryouts in subsequent quarters. Please do not sign up for a tryout or for the waitlist unless your athlete fully intends to take the next available spot, regardless of time of year. Because we limit our waitlists to the number of athletes we believe we will be able to accommodate in the next 12 months, swimmers on the waitlist who elect not to use their spot are taking opportunities away from others. We are happy to chat with you beforehand or have you come and visit so we can make sure it will be a good fit! |
