Meet Carl Miller
MJCC Swim Instructor

Though he was born in Scotland, Carl grew up in the Portland area, where swimming became a big part of his life at an early age. It was this love of the world of aquatics that led him to train as a swim instructor and start to share his enthusiasm for swimming.

Carl joined our team last May as a group and private instructor and as a lifeguard (in fact, he’s now our Head Lifeguard). He brought with him two years of experience working with kids of all ages and needs, and has had a great impact on our swim lesson program with his passion for strong skill development and boosting kids’ confidence in and out of the water. 

His favorite part of the learning process is watching kids go from timid at the idea of a swimming class to excited to show up for the next one, and it shows. We always hear from parents about his gentle and encouraging demeanor and endless positivity, and we’re lucky to have him on our team!

When he’s not in the water, Carl is hanging out with his own two kids, whether it’s snowboarding or watching along with their favorite shows. And, in the free time he does get, he’s listening to music and making his own behind his drumset or while strumming his ukulele.
