Warm Water Pool

Did you know that in addition to our Main Pool, the
MJCC also offers one of only two warm water pools in Portland? Our indoor warm pool (92-94°F) provides a comfortable, welcoming environment for exercise, recovery, and swim lessons.

Why Warm Water?
Water is far kinder than gravity when it comes to healing injuries and stiff joints. In a warm pool, your body is supported while the soothing temperature helps reduce discomfort. This allows you to move more freely, rebuild strength, and regain mobility and stamina at your own pace.

Benefits of Warm Water Exercise
Muscle Relaxation + Pain Relief
• Relieves muscle tension
• Reduces joint pain, stiffness, and inflammation
• Improves circulation and cardiovascular function (warm water dilates
blood vessels, helping deliver oxygen and nutrients more efficiently
• Enhances flexibility and range of motion
• Supports injury recovery and rehabilitation

Movement + Overall Wellness
• Improves mobility, balance, and coordination
• Provides gentle, low-impact exercise
• Decreases stress and promotes relaxation
• Aids in better sleep quality
• Boosts overall sense of well-being

For all ages
• Ideal for young children learning to swim
• Accessible and supportive for a wide range of fitness levels

Support for Health Conditions
Warm water therapy can be especially helpful for individuals managing certain health conditions:
• Arthritis and chronic pain: Increased blood flow helps ease soreness and
promotes healing, while making it easier to stretch and move joints
through a fuller range of motion.
• Injury recovery and fibromyalgia: Water buoyancy reduces stress on

joints while still providing resistance, making movements safer and
     more effective.
• Neurological conditions (e.g., multiple sclerosis): Warm water may help
reduce muscle spasms and improve comfort during movement.

The calming warmth also has a soothing effect on the nervous system similar to a warm bath, but with the added benefits of movement and exercise.

A Couple of Cautions
Warm water pools (92–94°F) may not be ideal for everyone:
• Individuals with heart conditions should consult a doctor before use
• Prolonged exposure can lead to overheating or dehydration
• Not always recommended during pregnancy without medical advice

Bottom Line
If your body feels tight, sore, or worn down, the warm pool offers a soothing and grounding way to move, recover, and feel better.
